The Stanley Little Big Book by Clarence Blanchard           Comprehensive Pocket Price Guide For Stanley Planes

The complete guide to Stanley plane values with type information that can help identify many of the more valuable types.   The information is up-to-date and reflects the current trends in collecting.   A three-category pricing system gives a range of values that reflects the importance of condition when pricing Stanley planes--all in a small book that fits in your pocket and will be there when you need it. Most models illustrated with actual plane photos and many photos showing the early-type planes. Dozens of the more important types described with the important features for quick on-the-spot identification. Information is up to date and based on recent sales and 30 years of experience in the antique tool world.

Well, as far as I’m concerned, Clarence hits the mark with everything. This is the one book that’s pocket sized for easy reference and reflects real world prices. We now have pictures, not drawings of some of the rarer Stanley planes.
Remarkable for me was the picture of the No. 11 rabbet plane, it books at $2,600-$3600-$5,500 and to say “not often seen” is a gross understatement. The three tiered price range is spot on also, as explained in the book.
It covers the standard Stanley/Bailey planes, the Bedrocks, the Two Tones, the all steel planes, Victor’s, Defiance, aluminum’s and rare prototypes. 230 pages packed with more information than you could ever use. At the front is an excellent pictorial section for logos and trademarks that gives you dating information as well, very handy for a quick typing session on the fly.

Drawbacks: only two that I can think of…first is that it’s just the planes, next year there will be a companion volume that will cover the other Stanley tools…and the second drawback: it’s a beautiful white covered book with very white pages…give me two flea markets and I guarantee it’ll be orange/rust colored.

This is certainly a book that was needed and a necessary “tool” for your collection. Bravo to Clarence! A real winner!
Trust me, you need this book..a necessity for all old tool hounds  .Walt...
