Birmingham Plane co. 1884-1900 Birmingham CT
William Ford, Solon Rust and O.R. Hayworth inventors. George Mosher president.
Located on Canal St, Birmingham CT soon to be a part of Derby and now a part of Shelton CT. They manufactured many iron planes including the T shaped carriage makers rabbet plane, noted for their bat wing appearance; very desirable and hard to find.

Birmingham plane later changed its name to the Derby Plane Co. though most blades still carried the Birmingham mark. The Hayworth patent was manufactured by the Derby Plane co. around 1893. The last listing for the Derby Plane Co. was 1900; in this year the company was purchased by the Union Manufacturing Company of New Britain. Union continued to sell the derby/Birmingham planes for a short period until stock ran out
